Only a few can come close to the amount of respect Jim Nantz gets when it comes to college basketball. The man built an impressive career covering multiple American sports, becoming a fixture on TV screens of American households over the years.
This is why it matters a lot to people that he didn’t shy away from showing his support to his favorite team as they are enjoying an incredible March Madness run. Seeing his alma mater stand out during the tournament makes him happy, which makes fans of his work glad as well.
For the longest time, Nantz was always calling games in the announcer’s booth. However, the beloved sportscaster took the opportunity of the Cougars playing well to spend time with his family and attend the game as a fan.
Awful Announcing posted a clip of Nantz enjoying the game with his family:

Nantz attended the University of Houston from 1977-81 as a part of their golf team. During his time there, he played with future pros in Fred Couples and Blaine McCallister.
Since the team has been performing well under Kelvin Sampson recently, it made sense for him to show his support for his alma mater. With how the team’s playing, it wouldn’t be weird for Jim Nantz to make an appearance all the way to the Final Four.
Sampson has built a solid team to take them far in March Madness. The team is built around seniors LJ Cryer, Jamal Shead, and J’Wan Roberts with Emmanuel Sharp being the standout contributor among the team’s younger players.
Cryer, Roberts, and Sharp proved to be vital for Sampson’s overtime win against the Texas A&M Aggies, and they’ll be counted upon again as they face a tough opponent in Duke in the next round.
